These hand-drawn design renderings, or illustrations, are valuable tools for designers to convey their design concepts to the clients or owners.
For example, the designer Woody Argall asked for renderings because he was working on a project with home owners hesitant to proceed with his design for their home. The home owners said they were having trouble understanding the design from only plans and mood boards. However, the renderings by Terence McFadden helped him, in his words, to “seal the deal,” selling the new plans, the furniture and the finishes to his clients.
Designers often prefer the warmth and romance of a loose hand-drawn design rendering, over computer generated models. CG models, such as Sketchup models, are of course useful, and they can be a valuable starting point for determinging the desired view of a hand-drawn rendering.
